Pronation: An Often Overlooked Cause of Knee Joint Pain

The first step to not having knee joint pain in the first place is prevention. There are several factors that you can accomplish in order to make sure that you keep your knees healthy. The first is your diet and weight. Just like our feet, your knees carry the weight that you have around, everywhere you go.

If you go to the grocery store and bag your own groceries, you will probably make the bags' light so that they are easier to carry. The heavy bags put stress on your back and arms and make you uncomfortable. Well, just think about what your knees have to go through.

If you are overweight per the size of your frame, then your knees and feet have to take on this extra pressure. Keeping your body in the proper weight range per your frame will help to eliminate any type of knee joint pain. Another factor would be to keep your legs strong and healthy. You don't want to overwork your legs, but you want to build the muscles around the knee.

These muscles help to take on any extra pressure that might be added such as sports, daily running, or a little extra weight. Doing simply things such as walking before you start running or taking time to stretch your joints and muscles every morning will make a significant difference in the health of your knees.

Another factor that you have to consider in making sure that you do not have knee joint pain is the shoes that you wear on your feet. Pronation is a term that is used to describe the roll the foot does as you walk. When you walk, you start on the heel of your foot and roll up to the toes. This movement helps to keep your foot balanced, which allows you to walk smoothly without falling over.

There are many people that will not wear the correct shoes which will cause over pronation or under pronation. When the roll has not been completed, it will affect your legs and knees because they are not getting the full range of motion.

You have to make sure that when you shop for your shoes, you get the shoes that will support your arch and allow you to follow through each, and every time you take a step. There are many shoes that would look very good on your feet but your feet will definitely be hating them, as well as your knees.
