The Menace of Joint Paint Relievers
Looking for a joint pain reliever that has no deadly side effects? Joint pain is one sickness that we may possibly encounter one day. And since the common cause of joint pain, arthritis, has no known cure, what the medical world can offer are only drugs which affords temporary relief from the pain. Manufacturers then produced the three most popular brands of joint pain relievers up to date: Vioxx, Bextra, and Celebrex.
These kind of drugs are call COX-2 inhibitors (COX-2 is an enzymes which triggers inflammation). They are effective joint pain relievers, however, these medicines also carry with them their dangerous side effects. That is why most of these COX-2 inhibitors are now out of the market.
So why were they banned and restricted?
The drug Vioxx was approved way back year 1999, and since then studies had been continually conducted to determine if Vioxx had any ominous side-effects. Unfortunately, the researches posed foreboding results. Taking the drug for a span of eighteen months or longer proved to be detrimental to the users.
Some of the side effects brought about by the COX-2 inhibitor drugs were proneness to heart attacks, stroke, ulcers, and gastrointestinal bleedings. In 2044, Vioxx was pulled out from the market. Of the three mentioned selective NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), Bextra had the most number of discovered negative consequences.
Studies proved that besides the known Vioxx reactions which are increased risk to heart attacks, strokes, and gastrointestinal problems, Bextra induced overwhelming side effects like a deadly skin disease (Stevens Johnson Syndrome), heart problems, low or high blood pressure, blood clotting, bronchitis, pleurisy, laryngitis, coughing, and disturbingly, psychiatric problems like anorexia, nervousness, insomnia, depression and many more. Because of the even more inimical effects of Bextra, it was withrawn from the market on April 2005.
Celebrex has the same effects asVioxx but the Food and Drugs Authority declared that the incidence of heart attacks and gastrointestinal bleeding because of Celebrex usage was somewhat lower. The drug was retained in the market but some of its possible side-effects also included kidney failure, liver degeneration and increased fluid retention.
Doctors may prescribe Celebrex but it must be coupled with strict admonitions against its adverse effects. Patients must be carefully examined if they are fit enough to carry or combat the side effects of the the drug.
Vioxx. Bextra. Celebrex. These are joint pain relievers that are directed to abscond the patients from the agony of hurting joints. But these medicines, in the effort to exterminate one malady, brought along even more lethal illnesses. Fortunately for those who are suffering from joint pains, there are natural alternatives and remedies available that are affordable, effective, and safer.
