Your feet, ankles, and knees are the hardest working parts of your body. These parts are what keep you moving. When these parts have problems, it will affect every activity that you try to do in your daily routine. The ankle is basically a hinge for moving your foot in the direction it needs to go.

The ankle joints are weight bearing joints that support the body during standing or walking. If you have ankle joint pain, then you know that there is something that needs to be fixed, either with the ankle or with your weight.

You will find there are many causes for having ankle joint pain. The most common cause involves an injury to the ankle such as a sprain or fracture. This type of injury is treated by fixing the broken bone, setting it in a cast and staying off of it for 6 weeks. A sprain is wrapped in a tight bandage in order to keep it immobile.

Other causes of ankle joint pain includes Tendinitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Ankylosing Spondylitis, along with several other different kinds of medical conditions that affect the joint of the ankle. The Achilles Tendon is the most common tendon that gets ruptured, usually in sports players.

It is very painful when this tendon tears and will often result in the person having to acquire surgery in order to fix it. This type of injury can take a person off of their feet for quite some time.

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome is another common cause for a person having ankle joint pain. It is very similar to the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome that people have in their wrists. Tarsal is the Latin word that means ankle. There is a sensory nerve within the ankle that passes through the tunnel of the ankle.

When there is pressure placed on this nerve, it can cause ankle pain. It can also cause the person to feel tingling  and numbness in their foot and toes. This syndrome is treated basically the same as Carpal Tunnel, but it is not as common as the pain that you find in the wrist.

You will find that there are also other different treatments in order to help cure ankle joint pain and these revolve around purchasing the right shoes. You could have ankle pain if you don't have enough support in the shoes that you wear. Often times, doctors with prescribe special boots that the patient has to wear for three to four weeks.

The patient is surprised to find out that when they remove the boots, their ankle or ankles do not hurt anymore. You will find that there are many shoes you can purchase in the stores that will have the support that you need for your ankles. These shoes may cost a bit more money, but they will be well worth the cost.
